Homemade Collagen for Pain, Inflammation, and Joint Health

Homemade Collagen for Pain, Inflammation, and Joint Health

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body, playing a key role in maintaining the strength and elasticity of skin, joints, bones, and connective tissues. As we age, our natural collagen production declines—often leading to joint pain, stiffness, and inflammation. While many turn to store-bought supplements, making homemade collagen is a natural, budget-friendly, and highly absorbable way to boost your body’s collagen levels. This traditional remedy not only supports joint health but also reduces inflammation and strengthens the immune system.

🥣 Homemade Collagen Recipe (Bone Broth)

✳️ Ingredients:

  • 1 kg (2.2 lbs) of organic beef bones (preferably with joints or marrow)
  • 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, peeled and chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 3–5 cloves of garlic, smashed
  • 1–2 teaspoons of sea salt
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Optional: fresh parsley, ginger, or turmeric root for anti-inflammatory benefits
  • Water (enough to cover all ingredients)

🥄 Instructions:

  1. Prepare the bones
If you’re using raw bones, you can roast them at 200°C (400°F) for 30 minutes to enhance flavor.
  2. Add ingredients to a large pot or slow cooker
Place bones, vegetables, apple cider vinegar, herbs, and spices into the pot. Pour in enough water to fully cover the ingredients.
  3. Simmer slowly
Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a very low simmer.
    • Cook time:
      • 12–24 hours for beef bones
      • 6–12 hours for chicken bones
(The longer it simmers, the more collagen and nutrients are extracted.)
  4. Strain and store
Remove the solids and strain the broth into glass jars. Let cool before storing in the fridge (up to 5 days) or freezer (up to 3 months).
