Crispy Homemade Chicken Nuggets

These golden, crunchy, and juicy chicken nuggets are the perfect snack or meal for the whole family! Easy to make and full of flavor, they taste even better than store-bought.

Ingredients

  • 500 g (1.1 lbs) boneless chicken breast, cut into small cubes
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup cold milk (or water)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 tsp paprika (optional)
  • 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Batter
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
    • In another bowl, mix the flour, cornstarch, and baking powder.
  2. Coat the Chicken
    • Add the chicken cubes into the wet mixture and stir well to coat evenly.
    • Gradually add the dry mixture into the wet mixture, stirring until you get a thick, smooth batter that covers the chicken completely.
  3. Heat the Oil
    • Pour enough oil into a deep frying pan or pot to submerge the nuggets.
    • Heat over medium-high until the oil reaches about 170°C (340°F).
  4. Fry the Nuggets
    • Drop spoonfuls of battered chicken into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
    • Fry for about 4–5 minutes, turning occasionally, until the nuggets are golden brown and crispy.
  5. Drain and Serve
    • Remove the nuggets and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
    • Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces—ketchup, mayonnaise, honey mustard, or BBQ sauce.

Tips for Best Results

  • For extra flavor, marinate the chicken cubes in a little salt, pepper, and garlic for 30 minutes before coating.
  • Ensure your oil is hot enough before frying to avoid soggy nuggets.
  • These nuggets can be frozen after frying—just reheat in the oven for a quick snack.
