🍰 Creamy Custard Slice Recipe

Ingredients:

For the cake batter:

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (10 g) baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the cream filling:

  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 200 ml heavy cream (whipped)

For topping:

  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the cream filling:
    • In a saucepan, mix milk, sugar, egg yolk, and cornstarch.
    • Cook over medium heat while whisking until it thickens.
    • Remove from heat, add vanilla, let it cool, then fold in the whipped cream.
    • Refrigerate while you prepare the cake.
  2. Prepare the cake batter:
    • Beat eggs and sugar until fluffy.
    • Add yogurt, oil, and vanilla.
    • Gradually mix in flour and baking powder.
    • Pour the batter into a greased baking dish and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 25–30 minutes, until golden.
    • Let the cake cool, then cut it in half horizontally.
  3. Assemble the cake:
    • Spread the chilled cream filling evenly on the bottom half.
    • Place the top half of the cake over it.
    • Refrigerate for 2–3 hours to set.
  4. Serve:
    • Cut into squares, dust with powdered sugar, and enjoy!
